Hello Everyone,

My name is Juanita Gonzales and I am a Physical Education teacher at George Washington Carver Middle School in South Los Angeles. I have been an educator for 35 years and I have enjoyed most of my time as an educator. My journey began as a bilingual science teacher in middle school. Some of you may or may not remember when we had bilingual classes. I have also worked in an adult male prison as a PE teacher/coach, in fact I was the first female coach hired for an adult male prison in the state of California for the Department of Corrections.

I received my Administrative Credential and my Masters Degree from SDSU and promoted within the Department of Corrections to be a Supervisor of Academic Instruction at the women’s prison in Chino, which is the same as an assistant principal. I went back to public education as a physical education teacher at a high school and moved up at the same school to actually be promoted to the co-principal position of that high school. I moved out of state for a while and my administrative credential expired at that time. I was happy to be hired by LAUSD and love teaching PE at Carver Middle School. I cannot imagine doing anything else as a career and I truly love what I do.

I am looking forward to this process and I know that I will gain much knowledge from everyone and I am looking forward to all the assistance and help we can give each other through this time working together to become Nationally Board Certified teachers.

Hello,

My name is Lucina Isidoro Ortiz. I’m from Mexican heritage and became a U.S. citizen a little over ten years ago. I have been teaching for five years. I’ve taught in two school districts, the Vacaville Unified School District and the Los Angeles Unified School District. I started my teaching career at a dual immersion school where I was honored to have been given the opportunity to teach in Spanish and English. Currently, I’m a science and math middle school teacher at Carver Middle School. As I have developed and continue to develop my teaching career, I have used my core values to guide me to make sensible decisions. I truly believe that with hard work, humility, and perseverance anyone can accomplish anything. My nature has always been the type to analyze, question and reflect. I truly enjoy finding and researching different ways to do pretty much anything, from changing a garbage disposal to uploading a video in YouTube.
